Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2022-2032, Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2022

The 2019 Château Haut Nouchet is a more one-dimensional effort, offering ripe cherry and tobacco aromatics, medium body, firm yet solid tannins, and a good finish. It's well done and should keep for 8-10 years.

The 2019 Haut Nouchet is dried out and lacking in both fruit and freshness. Both bottles I tasted gave the distinct impression of a light-bodied, evolved wine that is maturing quickly.

Attractive estate located in the commune of Martillac that was once owned by the Lurton family and is now owned by brothers Gauthier, Thibault and Domitille Briest (part of the original vineyard also now forms Chateau de Carmes Haut-Brion). Tight tannins reflecting cool clay soils that sit alongside deep gravel outcrops at this spot. Takes time to soften in the glass, but there are plump damson fruits and sweet liquorice that rewards time in the glass.

The 2019 Haut Nouchet opens with a fine burst of energy. Dried herbs, crushed flowers, licorice and leather add layers of nuance as this mid-weight, super-expressive Pessac-Léognan gradually opens. The 2019 is a bit light, and that is impossible to get past.
