Punteggio 88/100 · Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2011

The 2009 Tobiano Pinot Noir was mostly native yeast fermented and was aged in 15% new French oak. It offers up notes of cedar, cherry blossom, cinnamon, black cherry, and black raspberry. This leads to a smooth-textured, quite full-bodied wine with good balance and length. Perhaps another 1-2 years of bottle age will result in the complexity needed for an outstanding rating. The Kingston family owns a 300 acre hillside vineyard in cool-climate Casablanca 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean and 900 feet above sea level. The vineyards date from 1998 with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Syrah planted. Importer: Kingston Family Vineyards, Portola Valley, CA; tel. (650) 854-4146

Ruby-red. Spiced dark berries, cherry, minerals and mocha on the nose. Sweet, lush and nicely concentrated, exuding round, seamless flavors of raspberry and cherry compote, lifted by a floral element. Offers good energy and shows more depth and open-knit character than the Alazan; I suspect that many people will prefer this wine to its big sister.
