Not far from the 2015, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Le Roi Soleil is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% each of Merlot and Tannat yet is sourced from Mount Veeder. Aged 20 months in 80% new French oak, it offers lots of blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with notions of cedar, bay leaf, and charcoal aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness, no hard edges, and silky tannin, it needs a decant if drinking anytime soon and will continue drinking nicely for 10-15 years.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Le Roi Soleil is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest equal parts Tannat and Merlot. Dense ruby/purple, attractive blueberry and blackberry fruit with camphor and charcoal, the wine is medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic and a well-made mountain Cabernet to drink over the next 12-15 or more years.
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Le Roi Soleil is a huge, inky, gamy wine. Creme de cassis, iron and leather all give the Roi Soleil a distinctly wild, feral character. That impression is reinforced by the huge, imposing tannins. Super-ripe dark fruit and a range of exotic aromas add complexity to a wine that is certainly not lacking in personality. It will be interesting to see where the 2014 ends up.
