Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2019-2024, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Feb 2019

Like the Lousas Viñas de Aldea CV, the 2016 Lousas Parcela Rosende is produced exclusively for the Viticole wine club in the US. This comes from a single plot ("parcela" means plot in Spanish) in the Sober zone but in an area with granite and wider terraces and less steel than the Sil. This plot is used to make part of the Viñas de Aldea, and part of it was bottled separately for the first time in 2016 for this cuvée. This plot suffered from frost in 2017, so they only produced a couple of barrels of this wine and also used some of it for part of the blend of Viñas de Aldeia; they'll see what they do with the 2018, as they have it all separate and may or may not bottle it separately again. This wine is sourced from three plots that make up 0.6 hectares of vines planted in 1960 and 1992, all blended varieties with a majority of Mencía and 15% of Souson, Merenzao, Garanacha Tintorera and even some Palomino and other whites that are picked and fermented together. The fermentation was with full clusters and indigenous yeasts, foot trodden in plastic bins and then matured in 228-liter used barriques. This is different from the rest of their wines, as the granite soils tend to produce sharper and longer wines, and the texture is completely different. This is a year of fine and complex wines, with power. Only 750 bottles were filled in November 2017 (and the rest went to the blend of Viñas de Aldea).
