The 2014 Bellegrave from Pauillac did not show particularly well from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a rather staid and earthy bouquet that needs more brightness and contrast. The palate is medium-bodied and for me, feels very pushed in the winery and dispenses with precision and much in the way of nuance on the over-egged finish. This ought to be better.

Aromas of blueberries, stones and spices follow through to a full yet compacted palate and silky tannins that are soft and polished. A beautifully crafted red. Try in 2022. Feb 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
