1997 Qupé Syrah Bien Nacido Reserve

Dark red. Red berry confiture, bitter cherry and woodsmoke on the nose. Juicy, youthfully backward flavors of tart red berries, cherry and mint; moderately dense and fairly intense. Finishes with ripe tannins and a note of espresso. I would have picked this as grenache. Also tasted: 1997 Los Olivos Cuvee Santa Barbara County*.
