The 2006 Badger, which is from the Booker Vineyard, is a blend of 65% Syrah, 25% Mourvedre, and 10% Grenache. Another outstanding effort from Villa Creek, the wine has a dense ruby/purple color, a big, sweet kiss of blueberry and black cherry notes, with licorice, earth, and roasted herbs. It is heady, ripe, deep, plush, and totally hedonistic, but also complex. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Tel. (805) 238-7145; Fax (805) 238-7514
(65% syrah, 25% mourvedre and 10% grenache) Opaque ruby. Fresh cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complemented by lavender, violet, minerals and licorice. Sweet dark berry flavors are braced by zesty minerals and framed by silky tannins that fade into the lush fruit on the broad, long finish. This medium-bodied wine is already drinking well.
