The 1999 Chardonnay Mitsuko's Vineyard Hommage Reserve (about 750 cases) is a selection of the finest barrels. Indigenous yeast-fermented and bottled unfiltered, it boasts a terrific nose of honeysuckle, tropical fruit, and smoky, leesy, roasted nut scents. Yellow-gold color. Exotic aromas of pineapple, lemon zest, apple, coconut, clove and nutmeg. Fat and thick, but with good lemony verve throughout. Complicated by game and smoke notes. Finishes ripe and long. This was still aging on its lees at the end of February. Mostly from an old Wente selection that retains acid well.
