The 2012 Extra Brut Terra is a pure Chardonnay aged in Tuscan amphora. The most evocative perfume of baked apple sprays from the nose, the palate continues with this lovely apple notion, smooth, bright, with a gorgeous apple pip bitterness that makes the mouth water and accentuates this glorious freshness. Nathalie Falmet is a consultant oenologist making champagne from her 3.2 ha domaine (2.4 ha of Pinot Noir and under 0.5 ha each of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier). The village is on the eastern edge of the Aube, as far from Reims and Epernay as you can be in Champagne. 100% Chardonnay. Aged in terracotta amphorae before bottling in March 2013. MLF. Disgorged September 2017. Dosage 1 g/l. How fascinating – the amphorae add real vitality to this wine. Lots of lift and excitement and fruit. Nice crisp crackling finish. Real texture. (JR)
