2014 Château de Meursault Meursault-Perrières 1er Cru

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Château de Meursault's 2014 Meursault 1er Cru les Perrières has a very intense nose with pure walnut, flint and light popcorn scents—all very sensual. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, fine delineation, lovely saline notes toward the oaky finish that fans out with great confidence and gusto. This fulfills the promise that it showed from barrel.

(Follin-Arbelet believes that this holding next to the quarry is the best part of Perrières as there's very low humidity here; he noted that this parcel was not frosted this April): Bright medium yellow. Lightly saline aromas of lemon zest and blossom and minerals; smells denser than the 2013 version. Boasts a rich texture like liquid silk, with compelling sweetness cut by stony minerality and brisk acidity. Shows much more energy and mineral tension than the Charmes. The very long, rising finish leaves behind a tingling impression.

Broad and dense. Crystalline structure and very sweet fruit. Not quite as weighty as some Perrières. More on the mineral than fruit-weight side. (JR)
