Punteggio 17.5/20 · Da bere 2011-2025, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2013

Very dark right out to the rim. Very concentrated. First year of native yeast.  First year of making it not at Herzog in southern California. Much more lively and alive on the nose than earlier vintages. A cellar hand moved north from Herzog. Made in Napa. Lovely and round and rich and yet not too sweet or heavy. Not light but beautifully balanced. Clean and fresh and a breeze on the finish. Sweet and inky. Vibrant and really admirable. 500 cases at $100 a bottle.  (JR)

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as classic aromas of graphite, creme de cassis and black cherries. Full-bodied and dense with a beautiful texture as well as the potential to evolve for 12-15 years, this is a beauty. Jeff Morgan's newest project, in which he partners with Leslie Rudd from Rudd Estate Winery, includes co-fermented Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Veeder and Oakville. A quick look at barrel samples of the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa and 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Solomon Lot 70 reveal similar qualitative styles. Both may be slightly more fruit forward than their 2008 counterparts, but they are dense, rich and seriously endowed. The Solomon Lot 70 again shows lots of chocolate and roasted coffee characteristics. Are these the world's greatest kosher wines? Tel. (707) 963-3887
