The 2016 Red Wine Innovant is made up of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, aged 20 months in 45% new French oak. It has a deep ruby color opens with cassis, grilled beef, black plum, Morello cherries, cedar and bay leaf touches with a classy framing of new oak spice plus violet hints. Medium to full-bodied, it's plush and intense with a frame of finely grained, ripe tannins and seamlessly woven freshness, finishing long. 613 cases produced.

As to the reds, the 2016 Innovant Red Wine checks in as 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot that spent 20 months in 45% new French oak. It’s a beautiful bottle of wine that has loads of blue fruits, violets, and subtle earthy minerality as well as medium to full body, incredibly polished tannins, and a great finish. Coming all from the Alden Vineyard in Alexander Valley, it represents a good value even at the $50 price point. Drink it over the coming 15 years or so.
The 2016 Red Wine Innovant, Captûre's Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend, is a bold, punchy wine. Bright red cherry, red plum, chocolate, leather, licorice and spice are all pushed forward. Racy and succulent to the core, the Innovant has so much to offer. But it could also be so much more. The purity of the flavors is remarkable, and yet the desire to make a hyper-technically clean wine takes away a lot of character.
