Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2035, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Dec 2024

“A frost panic-induced email resulted in this bottling,” Patricia Green Cellars owner and winemaker Jim Anderson says, referring to the unusual mid-April frost that punctuated bud break in the Willamette Valley. “The April frosts in 2022 seemed devastating at the time they occurred,” Anderson explains, although many growers were pleasantly surprised by the generosity of the crop from the secondary buds. The 2022 Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard comes from vines planted in 2000, and grapes were harvested on September 14. Matured in 22% new barrels, the nose offers soft red fruit accented by wafts of aniseed, forest floor, Earl Grey tea leaves and chaparral. The light-bodied palate is soft and silky with fireworks of fresh acidity, and it has a long finish streaked with floral perfume and spice. 700 cases were made.

Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2024-2037, Jeb Dunnuck, Aug 2024

The defining wine of 2022, coming from the Anderson Valley in California, the 2022 Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard is a bright ruby color and is lifted with savory fresh herbs, pine, conifer spices, pomegranate, rhubarb, and spiced orange peel. Bright and linear, it’s energetic and focused, with citrus drive on the palate, fine tannins, and a clean, zesty finish. It’s refreshing and vibrant but has a lot to offer. Drink 2024-2037.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2026-2036, Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2024

A lovely blend of sweet herbs, cinnamon, cherry cola and dried strawberries wafts up from the 2022 Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard. This possesses the fruit of California with the precision of Patricia Green Cellars, displaying crisp red berry fruit and mineral tones accentuated by zesty acidity. It finishes long, structured and perfumed with a tinge of sour citrus. Fine-grained tannins saturate without slowing the Bearwallow's momentum. Threatened with a reduced crop early in the 2022 season, Jim Anderson reached out to Bearwallow Vineyard in Anderson Valley for fruit. There will also be a 2023, but no further bottlings are planned.
