A real wow wine, the 2006 Domaine Moulin-Tacussel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Henry Tacussel seems to be a traditionally made wine on steroids and possesses stunning aromatics of black cherry, spice box, roasted herbs and hoisin sauce. On the first night, this had a resiny, sappy texture but on the second night, this fleshed out and was full bodied, soft and almost decadent. Give this some time in the cellar or if drinking now, lots of air.

The outstanding, dense plum/ruby-colored 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Henry Tacussel is filled with notes of earth, pepper, spice box, lavender, licorice, and kirsch. Deep, full-bodied, and rich, it will benefit from several years of bottle age, and should keep for 15 or more years. Monsieur Moulin, one of the great gentlemen of Chateauneuf du Pape, will be 80 years old on November 21. I have been visiting this estate for many years, and I don’t think I have ever seen him without a broad smile and sparkling eyes. Over recent years he has raised the game considerably, both for his traditional cuvee and the newest offerings, an homage to his wife’s grandfather who passed away in 1943, Henry Tacussel. Mid to dark crimson. Rich and supple with violets and positively licking you wanting you to like it. Pretty loose, masses of alcohol and the tannins a bit dry. Not yet anywhere near formed. Mainly barriqued Grenache with 7% Syrah. (JR)
Ruby-red. Wild, pungent aromas of bright raspberry and cherry preserves accented by suave baking spices and flowers. Silky in texture, with medium weight and deep, sweet red and dark berry liqueur flavors that carry impressively through the finish. This boasts excellent focus.
