Healthy dark red. Complex nose melds black raspberry, smoke, sage and black olive tapenade. Musky and thick, conveying a salty, high-pH mouthfeel to its red fruit and spice flavors. Just short of heavy, this wine finishes with moderate persistence.

Easily my favorite in the lineup, the 2013 Syrah The Darkness (100% Syrah aged in 50% new French oak) is a medium to full-bodied, elegant, incredibly graceful Syrah that offers classy notes of black raspberries, violets, spring flowers and a hint of lead pencil shavings. It has solid concentration, yet stays weighty and silky on the palate, with enough density and ripe tannin to keep it drinking nicely through 2023.
