Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2016-2024, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Mar 2015

The 2012 Dumb Ox Pinot Noir comes from volcanic soils, with veins of marine sediment, from 20-year-old vines on their own roots, the wine aged in 40% new oak. It has a very seductive bouquet, quite floral in style with touches of cassis and blueberry that gain momentum in the glass. The palate veers more toward black fruit, smooth and velvety in the mouth with nicely judged acidity and an elegant finish that exerts a gentle grip. I like the salinity here - another very fine Pinot Noir. Just 125 cases produced.

(35% new oak): Brilliant ruby-red. Sexy, high-pitched cherry and black raspberry scents are complicated by cola, allspice and smoky minerals. Juicy, focused and pure, with gently sweet red and dark berry flavors putting on weight with air. Blackberry and rose pastille notes cling on the finish, which is firmed by silky, fine-grained tannins. Quite elegant and surprisingly approachable, but this has the balance to age. This fruit is sourced from an ungrafted block of Pommard clone vines.
