Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2020-2032, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2017

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes from Antoine Jobard did not reach the quality level I was hoping for from barrel. The nose was laconic at first, eventually subtle notes of walnut, almond and a touch of orange rind emerging. The palate is well balanced with a generous, quince-tinged opening with brioche and almond. It just lacks the intellectual rigor of the best examples from the vineyard on this tasting. I wonder if it is closed or just having an off-day? I will put a question mark against my score and will revisit the wine down the line. Tasted September 2017.

Very closed nose hints at menthol. Concentrated, dense and sappy in the mouth, with strong stone fruit and saline mineral flavors carrying through to a chewy, salty finish. Boasts lovely ripeness but not quite the purity of the Genevrières. "The 2014s have more material and ripeness than the '13s and will age longer," noted Jobard.
