The 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has aged well. It offers good freshness for a year-old wine and plenty of depth too. Lively floral and savory notes are typical of this year. Black cherry, gravel, sage, menthol, licorice and chocolate give this potent, brooding Cabernet a good deal of character. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years, as it is heading into maturity. Most of the fruit was from warmer appellations in the northern part of the valley. The 2011 includes a dollop of Cabernet Franc from Calistoga, the last year this bottling included Franc.

The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest other Bordeaux varietals. Ripe, rich, lush and fully mature, it reveals lots of cedarwood, blackcurrant and blueberry fruit. Drink it over the next decade.
Bright ruby-red. Musky aromas of black raspberry, licorice, earth, mocha and chocolate, plus a whiff of game. Supple and spicy, offering moderate depth and ripeness to the flavors of dark berries, licorice, coffee and herbs. Finishes with building, slightly dry-edged tannins. (Etude did not bottle any other cabernets or vineyard-designated pinot noirs from the 2011 vintage.)
