The 2010 Pinot Noir Sea View Ridge Block 20 emerges from a high-altitude hillside parcel that is totally exposed to the elements. Savory herbs, licorice tar, game, new leather and menthol are some of the notes that add complexity to this taut, inward wine. A Pinot of considerable complexity and breed, the Block 20 needs time to fully emerge. Today, it is distinguished by many aspects, including its bracing, saline-infused finish.

Planted 1998 so Dijon clones mainly, cf Camp Meeting Ridge. Really quite pale ruby. Very sweet, almost beetrooty nose. Warm and minerally nose. Quite sweet and rich. A bit solid. Earthbound but sweet velvety Chambolle quality to it. Grainy warmth. Needs time. Still a little chewy. (JR)
