Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2024-2030, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Jul 2024

The 2017 Chardonnay Sigrid is very reductive on the nose, which could be polarizing. The medium-bodied palate is much more open at this stage, offering a deep core of apple fruit and soft, tertiary character. Its concentration and gently grippy texture are balanced by bright acidity, and it has a long, savory finish. It will benefit from a long decant.

Pale yellow. A suave, intensely perfumed bouquet features tangerine, pear, iodine, buttered toast and fresh fig scents, and spicy ginger and floral notes emerge as the wine opens up. Penetrating, concentrated and focused on the palate, with ripe acidity bracing powerful citrus and orchard fruit, honeysuckle and saffron flavors. Rich but minerally and lithe, with superb finishing energy and floral-tinged persistence.

All estate fruit. Fermented and aged for 18 months in French oak, on lees. Full malo. Subtle and pretty reticent on the nose, with just a hint of mealy citrus. More open on the palate with a lovely balance between zesty fresh citrus and subtle spice and savoury lees texture. Not in the least showy but with impressive depth and incipient complexity. Not really showing its full potential yet. Mouth-watering finish. Makes me want to go and order pan-fried fresh fish and spend the evening with this bottle. Expensive but perhaps not by US standards. A very complex chardonnay with grapefruit pith and attractive, fresh white peaches, almonds and flinty, stony nuances, too. The palate has a vibrant, lemon core with superbly fresh, taut and concentrated fruit presence. Drink now.
