Good full red. Aromas of raspberry, smoke and flowers show an almost liqueur-like exotic aspect. Sweet but very nicely balanced, with terrific density and a lightly saline character to the flavors of red fruits, coffee, mocha and minerals. Insidiously long on the rising finish, coating the palate with strong saline minerality. A lovely expression of soil with plenty of aging potential.
(from 58-year-old vines): Good bright red. Black raspberry and coffee aromas show a slightly liqueur-like quality. Sweet, creamy and ripe, with suggestions of surmaturite to the savory fruit and chocolate flavors. Lovely fruit here, but the chocolatey oak gives the tannins a dry edge. Cathiard regained control of his parcels in this premier cru in 2006 and says he still needs more time to get the vines back into prime condition.
