The 2010 Syrah has evolved a balsamic nose with traces of flesh, leather and tomato leaf. In the mouth, the tannins are polished but reactive. Firm and grippy before the truncated finish.

Dark purple. Powerful floral aromas of blueberry, blackberry and peppery spices. Displays vibrant flavors of smoky dark berries, cracked pepper and candied violet, with a hint of licorice in the background. Rich but lively syrah, finishing sweet, seamless and very long. Leans more toward the Rhone than California in style and is graceful enough to stand in for plenty of ripe pinots.
91% Syrah, 5% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Viognier, 1% Grenache, Mourvèdre and Tempranillo. Juicy and firm. Nicely toned tannins, but this is a bit too generically black-fruited for my liking. (RH)
The 2010 Syrah is blended with other grape varieties such as Malbec and Viognier, although the Syrah constitutes 91% of the blend and is matured in oak for 12 months. It has a simple nose of blackberry and beetroot that is very primal and lacks the sophistication of its peers. The palate is full-bodied with dense, furry tannins and layers of tarry black fruit that lead to a rather dour, heavy-handed finish. Drink now. Importer: Wine Markets International, Syosset, NY; tel.
