In addition to the same DRC-imitative label of the estate bottling, this bottle ostentatiously bears a microchip made by Cypress Semiconductor, which is how the proprietor made his millions. 249 cases made. Smells of earth and dried cherries. Raisin and dried-cherry flavours are gripped in a thick fist of muscular tannins. Weighty and muddy with the dried fruit and massive tannins weighing on the palate, this is simply a blockheaded wine. T J Rodgers, the proprietor, is inarguably a genius technologist and a multi-millionaire, who can afford the time and money to taste the finest burgundy, not to mention the wines of many of his incredibly talented neighbours, yet somehow he persists in making wines like this. The 2013 Pinot Noir Domaine Lois Louise Twisty Ridge is laced with crushed red berry, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, French oak, mint and dried rose petal. The Twisty Ridge is a bit more linear and less opulent than the other Pinots in the range, with greater aromatic breadth and tons of persistence. I would drink it sooner rather than later, before the fruit fades, even if there is plenty of energy and freshness to allow the wine to drink well for a number of years. A whole range of red fruit and floral accents liven up the finish.
