The 2013 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills Vineyard opens with the typical aromatics that make this site so compelling. Exotic spices, plums, black cherries, menthol and new leather meld together effortlessly in the glass. The 2013 is soft and supple, yet has more than enough depth to drink well for a number of years. Radiant and deeply expressive, the 2013 is a winner.

A solid effort from this vineyard that shows the classic, fruit-forward, Solomon Hills bouquet of strawberries, raspberries, violets and forest floor, the 2013 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills Vineyard is medium-bodied, elegant and lightly textured, with terrific purity. It drops off more quickly than I'd like on the finish, but it is still a beautiful wine. The elevage was 11 months in 50% new French oak.
Relatively dark crimson. Lots of race and pace and some energetic fruit. Bone-dry finish and a little spiciness. Very distinctive and ambitious. Some herbal qualities. Long. (JR)
