The 2012 Pinot Noir High Plains I think is my favorite of Dehlinger’s 2012 Pinot Noirs. This is a small cuvée of just under 200 cases, and more expensive as well, but the beautiful blackberry and black cherry fruit and notes of pepper, spice and earth give rise to a wine of excellent purity, impressive power and length. Drink it over the next 7-9 years.

Dehlinger's 2012 Pinot Noir High Plains is bright and chiseled to the core, with beams of underlying acidity and tannin that give the wine its sense of energy. Sweet floral and spiced notes develop in the glass, but the High Plains is mostly distinguished by its pure mineral-driven cut, which serves to balance some of the inherent richness of these soils. This is a striking, beautifully expressive Pinot from Dehlinger.
The 2012 Pinot Noir High Plains fleshes out beautifully in the glass. The High Plains is first and foremost a wine of texture. It doesn’t quite have the energy or structure of some of the other 2012 Pinots; instead the High Plains impresses for its layered, silky personality and fabulous overall balance. A totally seductive, inviting Pinot, the High Plains should offer a long drinking window of pure pleasure starting pretty much as soon as it is released.
