The 2013 Syrah Tinaquaic Vineyard is magnificent. It's as simple as that. Inky dark blue and purplish fruit, lavender, menthol, sage and licorice make a strong first impression, before the considerable tannins kick in. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2013 needs at least a few years to soften. The interplay of fruit, tannin and acidity is compelling. This large-scaled, rich Syrah from Foxen has enough intensity to drink well for the next dozen years or more.

One of the highlights in this fabulous lineup, the 2013 Syrah Tinaquaic Vineyard boasts a huge center of fruit that is matched in its intensity only by firm, insistent tannins. Lavender, violet, black pepper and dark cherry emerge as this powerful, mysterious Syrah shows off its considerable personality and pedigree. There is so much to like here.
Also inky colored, with more meaty, peppery and herb characteristics in its core of ripe fruit and graphite, the 2013 Syrah Tinaquaic Vineyard is a serious barrel sample that's medium to full-bodied, structured and still tight, with lots of tannin. Cofermented with 4% Viognier and aged 21 months in larger format French and Hungarian oak (30% new), give it a year once released and enjoy bottles over the following decade.
