Take the regular cuvee, put it on steroids, and add more new oak and you have the full-bodied, powerful, concentrated 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Speciale. Abundant leather, tobacco-tinged, cassis flavors combine with hints of dried herbs and soil in this dense, tannic effort. This 1,100-case cuvee will require patience. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2022. (a selection of the most structured lots, aged an extra six months in barriques Bright red-ruby. Briary blackcurrant, licorice and tarry oak on the slightly medicinal nose. Richer and deeper than the regular '99 cabernet, with more sweetness of fruit. Longer on the finish, which features substantial, slightly angular tannins.
