The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain possesses a more mineral-dominated, muscular, backward style. It exhibits tightly-knit notes of black currants and minerals in its broad, rich personality. While there is excellent depth, this wine has not yet begun to reveal secondary nuances. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. A much bigger wine, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon fills out in all directions. Here the fruit is dark, rich and intense. Menthol, tar, incense and pine are some of the notes that wrap around the huge, expressive finish. There is plenty of structure and mountain tannin in this full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2010 vintage was generally more challenging than 2011 on Howell Mountain, but today the 2010 appears to have slightly more potential than its younger sibling.
Bright red-ruby. Musky aromas and flavors of currant, licorice, spices and leather. A juicy, spicy, claret-like midweight, with enticing fresh herb accents contributing to the impression of energy. Finishes seamless, subtle and long, with firm, building tannins and lingering notes of currant, black cherry and licorice. A very suave Howell Mountain cabernet.
