Ruby-red. Aromas of medicinal black cherry, licorice and violet suggest an austere wine. Densely packed but light on its feet, with black fruit flavors lifted by violet and a hint of menthol. Finishes with slightly drying dusty tannins. This needs time but will it retain its fruit?

A very strong effort for the vintage, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain may even eclipse its 2010 counterpart. Lots of plum, blueberry, black raspberry, crushed rock and spring flower characteristics are found in this full-bodied effort. One of the vintage’s most successful efforts, this classic effort should drink nicely for 15 or more years. These are the products of Bordeaux’s well-known wine consultant, Denis Malbec, and his wife, May-Britt. www.notrevinwines.com
The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is quite pretty. Dark red berries, flowers, mint and a hint of bramble come through in this medium-bodied, precise Cabernet Sauvignon. Although a bit compact, the 2011 offers a gorgeous combination of floral aromatics, beautifully delineated fruit, and plenty of mountain structure underpinned by brisk, saline minerality. This is a highly promising effort.
