Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2018, Jeb Dunnuck, Nov 2018

Bottled in March of this year, the 2015 Patrimony (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) will be held in bottle for a year prior to release. It’s another sensational wine that has awesome notes of crème de cassis, graphite, tobacco leaf, and graphite. It too is deep, full-bodied, and incredibly concentrated, as well as structured, and will need short-term cellaring. It will give any Cult Cali Cab out there a run for its money. From high up off Adelaida Road, the Daou brothers continue to make a massive lineup of stellar wines. The 2016s are incredibly strong across the board and make the most of this brilliant vintage. In 2017, they opted to wait until after the heatwaves and then do extensive sorting, and this paid off brilliantly and I suspect they’ve made the top Bordeaux blends in the vintage. As I’ve said in the past, these wine compete with the best of Napa Valley and are some of the leading Bordeaux blends from Paso Robles.

(aged in new French oak for 30 months) Youthful purple. A sexy, highly perfumed bouquet evokes spice-accented dark berry liqueur, cherry cola, cured tobacco, cedary oak and vanilla, along with smoke and incense topnotes. Sappy, broad, alluringly sweet cassis, cherry liqueur, vanilla and floral pastille flavors show outstanding depth as well as energy, and a suave spicecake nuance emerges on the back half. The spice and floral notes resonate on an extremely long, seamless finish that features velvety tannins and sappy dark fruit character.

The 2015 Patrimony (which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon as usual) is remarkable, revealing a deep and complex bouquet of blackberries, cassis, ripe plums, licorice, orange rind and rich soil. On the palate, it's full-bodied, powerful and immensely concentrated, with a bottomless, multidimensional core, rich tannins and a fine-grained, chewy, savory finish. Based on the evolution of earlier vintages, the 2015 should be extremely long lived.

(all new French oak): Lurid violet color. Displays potent dark berry, cola, roasted coffee and licorice scents that are complemented by hints of allspice, mocha and candied flowers. Fleshy, broad and appealingly sweet, offering densely packed cassis, cherry-vanilla, licorice and violet pastille flavors that are energized by a vein of smoky minerality. Shows excellent clarity and depth on a wonderfully long, sweet finish that's framed by smooth, harmonious tannins.
