The light to medium-bodied 2000 Pinot Noir Red Hills Estate displays charred wood, black fruits and an unpolished, angular personality. Those readers who enjoy taking risks should age this wine for 4-5 years before approaching it in the hope its tannins will soften; others should drink up. The 2000 vintage is the last produced by Archery Summit's winemaking team of Gary Andrus and Sam Tannahill, both men having departed to begin other ventures. Tel. (503) 864-4300

Deep ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, violet and nutmeg, along with strong oaky torrefaction notes of bitter chocolate and pipe tobacco. Dense and concentrated but extremely oaky. Quite clenched in the middle and very tannic on the back. There's excellent concentration here but today I can't see past the wine's wood element.
