The 2013 Petit Verdot Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard is dense, powerful and structured. Sadly, I did not taste this wine when it was young, but I have tasted enough PV lots from Vine Hill Ranch to not be surprised Tor decided to bottle this wine on its own. Scorched earth, leather, licorice, tobacco and menthol all develop in the glass. Ultimately, though, the 2013 is a wine from Vine Hill Ranch first and Petit Verdot second. The signatures of this site are just so unbelievably strong that they come through pretty much no matter what.

The least impressive wine in this portfolio is still an outstanding effort. The 2013 Petit Verdot Vine Hill Ranch has avoided the rustic, astringent tannins of Petit Verdot as well as the sweaty saddle leather-like character this varietal can possess. It exhibits a black color, good sweetness and silkiness, and 10-15+ years of drinkability. Not yet released.
The 2013 Petit Verdot Vine Hill Ranch is a one-time bottling. Dark, vibrant and explosive, the 2013 packs a serious punch with loads of inky dark fruit, mocha, new leather, spice and crème de cassis. Still young, the 2013 is absolutely fabulous. Petit Verdot has always been incredibly distinctive at Vine Hill Ranch.
