Palish red. More smoke and earth than fruit on the nose today but conveys an impression of energy. Supple, fleshy and generous, with good purity to its fruit and earth flavors. Savory and long on the aftertaste, with serious but ripe tannins. This very tactile village wine should evolve well.

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin is gorgeous. An expressive, racy bouquet melds into generous layers of fruit as the Gevrey opens up in the glass. There is plenty of energy, focus and sheer personality here. This is a tasty introduction to the wines of this great estate.
(Trapet made just one village Gevrey in 2010 owing to the short crop): Good bright red. Shy but sexy aromas of redcurrant and mocha. Sweet, sappy and savory, with good density to its cherry and raspberry fruit. Finishes with good length and vibrancy.

Jean-Louis Trapet is a quiet man, but when you make wines like these, words aren’t necessary. The Trapet 2010s are striking, but like everywhere else there isn’t much to go around. Trapet did not make his Gevrey villages Ostrea and the 1er Crus Clos Prieur and Petite Chapelle because yields were so small. None of the 2010s had at the time of my visit. I also tasted a number of 2009s that have turned out as good or better than I had expected. Trapet doesn’t seem to get anywhere near the recognition the wines deserve. There may be trendier domaines out there, but few that are at this level. Various US Importers, including: Polaner Selections, Mt. Kisco, NY; tel.
