Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, mocha, cloves, menthol and licorice wrap around the palate in Grassi's 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2010 is dark, juicy and drop-dead gorgeous today. Layers of rich, inky fruit continue to blossom as the wine sits in the glass. The style is opulent and juicy, with all of the elements in the right place.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark, rich and totally enveloping. Dark cherries, plums, mint, cassis and chocolate all come to life in a surprisingly broad-shouldered wine. The 2010 is quite a bit more imposing than the 2009, with darker fruit, more structure and a lot more freshness. Although the 2010 is striking today, it should be even better in another year or two.

Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Grassi is one of my favorite under the radar producers in Napa Valley. The estate excels with both Ribolla Gialla – a white grape native to Italy’s Friuli – and Cabernet Sauvignon.
