2017 Marcel Servin Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos

The 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is the deepest, most complete wine in the cellar, and though Les Preuses is more intellectual and Bougros more enveloping, Les Clos is the most serious grand cru bottling in the cellar, even if it's a little aloof today. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of ripe citrus fruit, preserved lemons, almond paste and dried white flowers, it's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with considerable depth and dimension, and wrapped up in impressive structure that make it out as built for the long haul.

The 2017 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru, matured 100% in 4 to 5 year old barrels, has more vigour and intensity, and fine definition with a subtle mineral note coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with candied orange peel, strangely almost a red fruit profile – strawberry and red cherry! I’ve never quite encountered a Chablis with these flavour profile but it is attractive and there is plenty of upfront freshness on the finish. Enjoy this over the next decade, possibly longer.
