The 2021 Chardonnay Édition Limitée, barrel fermented and matured in 50% new French oak, is stunning! It has pure, layered scents of white peach, elderflower and honeycomb. The medium-bodied palate is silky and seamless with integrated new oak spices, detailed fruit and a very long, ethereal finish. It deserves 3-5+ years in bottle.

The 2021 Chardonnay Edition Limitée blossoms with a perfumed blend of fennel, chamomile and crushed stone, giving way to peach preserves. This is deeply textural, silky verging on creamy, with ripe orchard fruit depths enriched by a hint of vanilla custard. The 2021 tapers off with a youthful citrusy tension pinching the cheeks as suggestions of mint and a saline tinge slowly fade.
Entirely barrel-fermented and barrel-aged for 10 months in 50% new oak, the 2021 Chardonnay Edition Limitee is a bright straw hue and offers lifted aromas of lemongrass, crushed stones, and white peach. The palate is long and elegant, with notes of lemon custard, a silky texture, and a clean finish. Drink 2023-2030. This was my second visit to the estate of Domaine Drouhin, where I met with David Millman and assistant winemaker Arron Bell. This benchmark estate was founded in 1987 in the Dundee Hills by the Burgundian estate Maison Joseph Drouhin, and fourth-generation winemaker Veronique Drouhin-Boss oversees the estate today. Given Domaine Drouhin’s commanding presence in the region, it’s always fantastic to see when the wines reach and even exceed expectations across the portfolio, as they have certainly done in the 2021 vintage.
