Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2027-2045, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Jun 2025

Chappellet's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Hideaway Vineyard is only the fourth vintage produced, from a southwest-facing parcel first planted in 1979. Dried sage accents are mixed red and black cherries on the nose, while the medium- to full-bodied palate is taut, tannic and firm, almost chewy on the finish. It seems to be in a bit of a closed phase at the moment.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Hideaway Vineyard, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, comes from the estate and is a broader, richer, more expansive wine compared to the Pritchard Hill release, offering lots of red and black currant fruits, notes of dried herbs, chocolate, and spice, full body, ripe, rounded tannins, and a great finish. It's already drinking nicely yet has another 15+ of prime drinking ahead of it. 1600 cases.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Hideaway emerges from a parcel on the other side of the estate, next to Continuum. First made in 2016, the Hideaway continues to show itself to be a wine of tremendous character and pedigree. In most vintages it challenges the Pritchard Hill but in 2019 I find it to have even greater complexity, nuance and pedigree. Like all these wines, the Hideaway is a potent wine, but all the elements are so well balanced. The Hideaway is the most distinctive wine in the range.
