Note di degustazione
With a pretty and vibrant red core, only showing a slight bricking around the rim, the 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva lifts up with a gorgeous and mature display of dried strawberries and cherries with notes of geranium, pine resin and a lifting hint of camphor. The textures are silky and smooth, coming across as quite polished in fact, with red berries and savory spices carried across a balanced core of brisk acids. This is mature yet still amazingly youthful in feel, cheek-puckering and packed full of energy, as it tapers off to notes of cinnamon, clove and a hint of cedar. There are still many years of pleasurable drinking ahead for owners of well-stored bottles. Sampled from the winery cellar, ( lot 6172).

It's nice to see this venerable estate bounce back after the disappointing 2001 Brunello and 2001 Brunello Montosoli bottlings. Altesino's 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva presents high-toned aromatics along with suggestions of flowers, spices and ripe red fruit in a style that is understated and focused while holding plenty of power in reserve. This classically styled, medium-bodied Brunello will benefit from another few years in the bottle.
