Note di degustazione
(15.3% alcohol; from a loam-and-gravel vineyard on the east side of the Silverado Trail in Rutherford): Bright medium red. Aromatic, rather wild nose offers briary cassis, licorice, tobacco and bitter chocolate. Boasts considerable power but also displays enticing sweetness to its flavors of cassis, blackberry and licorice. Finishes ripe, broad and long, with sweet tannins. This was the first vintage at D. R. Stephens that Mike Hirby made from start to finish.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Walther River Block bursts from the glass with loads of cassis, blackcurrant, licorice, leather, tobacco and incense. This decidedly large-scaled, voluptuous wine remains layered and sumptuous all the way through to the polished, refined finish. Although quite bombastic at first, the wine turns more polished and refined with time in the glass. Hints of cinnamon, cloves and raspberry jam are layered into the finish.

Subdued but pure aromas of black cherry, blackberry, violet and licorice. At once creamy and energetic, with a refined texture to the high-toned flavors of blueberry and minerals. Very intensely flavored wine with a very long, bright, floral finish. Lovely extraction of tannins here.
