The 2018 Pinot Noir Flax Estate Vineyard is one of the more reticent, severe wines in the range. It will be interesting to see if the Flax softens with time. Today, it is compact and totally closed in on itself. The Flax emerges from a rugged hillside site not too far from Rochioli, in the heart of the Russian River Valley.

Medium ruby-purple, the 2018 Pinot Noir Flax Estate is scented of baked blueberries and blackberries with notes of turned earth, bay leaves, sweet spices and loads of violet perfume. The medium-bodied palate has luscious, juicy blue and black fruits with a firm, grainy frame and long, perfumed finish.
A wine of raw power, the 2018 Pinot Noir Flax Estate Vineyard is not fully put together, and yet it is utterly captivating. I especially like the wine's density and sense of gravitas. All the 2018 needs is time to fully blossom. Even so, it is impressive in the early going.
