Punteggio 98/100 · Da bere 2018-2040, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Jul 2018

The 2010 Zinfandel Jackass Hill is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and has an amazingly overt nose of blueberry compote, blackberry coulis and dried mulberries with wafts of fruitcake, tobacco leaf, incense and fertile loam with a touch of espresso. This is a whopping great beauty in the very full-bodied mouth with fantastic intensity, a built-like-a-brick-house structure and an epically long finish.

Opaque purple. A hypnotic bouquet evokes black and blue fruit preserves, incense, licorice and violet, with smoky Indian spice and mineral nuances and a hint of cola. Completely stains the palate with intense blackberry, cherry and plum flavors, with peppery spice and floral pastille notes taking flight on the back end. Lush, seamless, deep zinfandel with superb finishing energy and floral persistence. These head-pruned vines, which sit on a 60-degree slope(!), were planted in 1887.

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
