An interesting blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, and Petite Sirah, the 2008 Mark Herold Wines Flux boasts a big, sweet profile with blackberry, currants, earth, oak, and spice aromatics, loads of upfront fruit and texture, and an overall drink me now feel. Drink this well-done crowd pleaser over the coming 2-4 years.

The intriguing 2008 Fleux (a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 14% Petite Sirah and 6% Carignan) is a great buy. Elegant peppery, strawberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with some blacker aromas jump from the glass of this spicy, earthy, medium to full-bodied effort with silky tannins. It will offer a luscious mouthful of wine over the next 4-5 years. The good news is there are just under 2,000 cases of it. (a Ch a teauneuf du Pape blend based on grenache) Good full ruby. Black cherry, licorice and a hint of meaty syrah on the slightly high-toned nose. A ripe, plush fruit bomb of a wine, with sexy, velvety fruit flavors lifted by sweet Darnajou oak. Firm acidity gives shape to this very successful blend. Winemaker/proprietor Mark Herold destems the fruit, sun-dries the stems, and then adds 50% of them back for the vinification. This was projected to retail for a reasonable 25.
