Note di degustazione
Kosta Browne's 2011 Pinot Noir 4 Barrel stands out for its balance. The least expressive of these 2011s today, the 4 Barrel will benefit from another year or two in bottle. Dark, expressive and also quite structured, the 2011 is intense and powerful to the core. Blue/black fruit, new leather, mint, licorice and cloves flow through to the intense finish.

More rich and weighty, with gorgeously ripe black cherries, plum, licorice, violets, menthol and toast, the 2011 Pinot Noir 4 Barrel is medium to full-bodied, deeply fruited and textured, with knockout richness and depth. While falling toward the larger end of the Pinot Noir spectrum, this is no floozy and has fantastic purity and precision. Enjoy it over the coming 5-6 years. Drink now-2019. This was a pretty, elegant lineup of wines by owners/winemakers Dan Kosta and Michael Browne. Tel. (707) 823-7430; www.kostabrowne.com
(made from a barrel each from the Gap's Crown, Koplen, Keefer Ranch and Garys' vineyards): Opaque ruby. Complex, heady scents of candied red berries and flowers, with Asian spice and mocha qualities adding complexity. Juicy and penetrating, offering sweet raspberry and cherry-cola flavors and a hint of succulent herbs. Dusty tannins add shape to the sappy finish, which clings tenaciously. (JR)
