The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch Vineyard, which is all Cabernet (it’s a mix of clone 337 and Rubicon) aged 20 months in new oak, is another winner. Made in a plush, sexy, full-bodied style, it offers up lots of blackcurrant liqueur, plums, spice, and incense aromas and flavors. From a warmer site in Calistoga, it’s already hard to resist yet should evolve nicely for 15+

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch Vineyard feels stuck in a middle ground where the fruit is overripe while the tannins are unyielding. Maybe I ran across an off bottle, but the pruney style is hard to get past here.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch Vineyard has a spicy, baked berries and raisin cake nose with prunes and hoisin notes plus wafts of earth and tobacco. Full-bodied, rich and soft with slightly chewy tannins, it is a little hollow, finishing long and spicy.
