The 2020 Pinot Noir Fraenkle Cheshier Vineyard is a soft, fruity wine. In this vintage it is pretty approachable and easy to like. Black cherry plum, mocha, cloves and licorice bring out the darker shades of Pinot. The tannins are a bit edgy though. Overall the 2020 is a very good wine for the year, but it is not as good as it can be. My impression is that there is some low-level smoke taint present.

Paul Hobbs is one of California wine’s biggest names. Twice named Wine Personality of the Year by Robert Parker, he joined Robert Mondavi in 1977, worked at Opus One and Simi before setting up his eponymous winery in 1991.
