Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2020-2030, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Oct 2020

The 2017 The Highlands is wonderfully singular and expressive this vintage. It's a blend of 70% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, made with about 30% whole clusters and aged in about 40% new oak. It has a medium to deep ruby-purple color and lovely scents of iron, pencil shavings, Morello cherries, blackberries and loads of accents of dried flowers, tea and blood orange. The medium to full-bodied palate offers expansive, mineral-laced fruits in a grainy, juicy frame, and it finishes long and layered. 140 cases were made.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2020-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Aug 2020

The Cabernet Franc-dominated 2017 The Highlands (70% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) reveals a saturated purple color as well as a more high-toned, floral bouquet of red and blue fruits, cedary herbs, damp earth, and spring flowers. It's another elegant yet powerful wine from Matthias that has plenty of fine tannins, good acidity, and a clean, elegant style that's going to evolve nicely for 10-15 years.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2020-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2020

The 2017 The Highlands is a Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Rich and flamboyant to the core, the 2017 packs a serious punch. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, sweet spice, white chocolate and mocha give the 2017 its bold, luscious personality. Franc aromatics emerge more fully with air, but the wine remains a touch fragile. For that reason, I would prefer to drink it on the early side. 26 months in cask.
