While a portion of the tiny estate vineyard lies within the Howell Mountain AVA, another portion does not, so Zakin's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate carries only a Napa Valley designation. This vintage is about 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, aged in about 80% new French oak. Attractive shadings of pine and cedar accent ripe black cherries and blueberries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins. Give this age-worthy, elegant wine several years in the cellar and drink it over the following two decades.

From a vineyard next to the Lotus Vineyard from Dana, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon checks in as 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc that spent 20 months in 75% new French oak. It has a fresh, focused, very classic mountain style as well as ample black and blue fruits, notes of sappy herbs, green tobacco, and crushed stone, medium to full body, and ripe yet building tannins. It’s a serious wine that deserves 5-7 years of bottle age.
