Note di degustazione
Vivid ruby. Vibrant aromas of red- and blackcurrant, cherry compote, licorice and tobacco; quite expressive and very fresh. Then dense and structured, with powerful yet suave flavors of black raspberry, smoky herbs, licorice, minerals and floral pastilles spreading out to stain the palate. Juicy and precise, with excellent finishing thrust and lingering spiciness. This wine was raised in 100% new Troncais barriques, but the oak is an afterthought; also, the wine is just a baby.

This is generally a Rhone Ranger-dominated portfolio, but Clos Mimi has produced a 2007 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the McGinley Vineyard in Santa Barbara that is a beautiful wine, without a bit of herbaceousness. Inky/purple, with a big sweet kiss of creme de cassis, camphor, spice box, and cedar, it is rich, full-bodied, and probably capable of evolving for 20+ years. This is a brilliant Cabernet Sauvignon from an area where no one ever expects to produce Cabernet of this quality. Perhaps California’s most idiosyncratic winery, Clos Mimi continues to march to the beat of a drummer unknown to anyone other than the proprietor, and we all should be thankful for that.
