The 2002 Claret has reached its maturity in style. Hints of sweet tobacco, dried herbs, mint, incense and dried cherry lend notable aromatic complexity and nuance. Medium in body and lively for its age, the 2002 shows David Ramey at his most inspired. More importantly, this is an impressive showing for Ramey's entry-level Bordeaux wine.

Good full ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, blueberry, roasted plum, melted chocolate, smoke and earth. Lush and silky, with chocolatey flavors showing an almost porty ripeness. Very broad but not overly sweet. Finishes with a wave of dusty tannins.
The 2002 Claret (59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 13% Cabernet Franc) boasts deep, cedary, black currant fruit, medium to full body, broad flavors, and a long, pure finish. Fax (707) 823-5620
Deep ruby-red. Currant, black raspberry and graphite on the nose, along with a note of cough syrup. Sweet, superripe and concentrated but somehow lively despite its rather soft texture. Slightly medicinal flavors of currant and licorice. Ramey notes that this wine just went into the tank and that its big tannins will be refined by a light egg white fining.
