The 2006 Pinot Noir Arrendell Vineyard, always one of my favorites from this estate, shows some of the monolithic, austere character and hard tannins that many 2006 Russian River Pinot Noirs possess. While it may be the least impressive Arrendell Vineyard Pinot Noir I have yet tasted, it remains a very good wine, just leaner and more austere. After two challenging vintages for Zinfandel (2005 and 2006), 2007 offers considerable promise for a return to the beautiful ripe fruit and seductive power of Zinfandel. Dark red. Deep cherry and dark berry aromas show rooty, cola and herbal qualities reminiscent of a wine from Morey-Saint-Denis. Suave bitter cherry and blackcurrant flavors are framed and enlivened by juicy acidity. Fleshes out on the finish, with the cherry and cola qualities repeating. This is the most backward of this impressive set of pinots.
